City Info | Fairmont is a village in Fillmore County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 560 at the 2010 census. Fairmont was platted in 1871 when the railroad was extended to that point. Fairmont is a descriptive name referring to the town's scenic setting at a lofty elevation. By the fall of 1872 Fairmont had a school building, hotels, more stores, lumberyards, and coal and feed yards under construction. The first newspaper, "Fairmont Bulletin" was published in 1872.
